Headed South to ?????

October 29th 2010

Whispering Oaks campground Story City, Ia

Whispering Oaks campground
Today we started our new adventure.  While walking thru the house for the last time we both had that empty feeling.  House felt almost lonely.  We worked really hard yesterday getting everything winterized.  Sure hope that we did not forget to do something.  If we did Lori/Scott and Joe can help out.
Motorhome & Trailer in our driveway

Trailer was hooked up, took pictures.  I actually started to cry, it just felt sad and exciting at the same time.  Time to start on down the road.  We laid on the air horn as we pulled out of the neighborhood.

What a beautiful day to start, sun is shining and a slight wind.  Today we are heading to Story City Iowa.  We will spend the night there before we head to Ames Iowa for the wedding on Saturday.

The further south we traveled the more wind we encountered.  Arrived at Whispering Oaks Campgrounds around 2.  Campground is really nice.  We parked in a pull thru with 50amp service and water site #19.  Satellite does not connect, campground is in a slight valley.  We went for a nice long walk with Dubbie this afternoon.  We think that we wore him out.

Cell and internet not very good.  Campground offers free wifi.

Today we only traveled about 20 miles into Ames Iowa.  Today is Brent and Holly's wedding.  Wedding and reception was beautiful.  Dubbie stayed with his first sitter today.  Paige's roommate Megan took care of him while we were at the wedding.  He got to stay with 2 other puppies.  Sounds like all 3 of the puppies really had nothing to do with each other.  We stayed in our first Walmart parking lot. Tom and Julie stayed with us.  Guess staying in a parking lot is not really as bad as we thought.  First times are always the hardest.  Although a person is really limited to what they can do while parking at Walmart.

Still really hard to believe that we are actually doing this.

Happy Halloween!!!

We are off and continuing our travels south.  Not sure when we are staying.  We are just trying to get where it is warmer.  So far the weather has been great.  Sun shining and a bit of side wind.  We got off the interstate and headed east to HWY 65.  Less traffic and more to see.

It seems like everyone that we talk with are first timers just like us.  Everyone seems excited just like we are and everyone seems to be heading to the Phoenix area.  Lots more motorhomes and 5th wheels are on the road today.  Time for everyone to head south.  We traveled for about five and a half hours today.  Pulled over for the night in Marshall Missouri.  Enjoyed the evening just planning our next days travel.

November 1st 2010

We are heading to Branson Missouri to spend a few days.   Still heading south on Hwy 65.  Not sure we really like this highway, not much for shoulders.  Today the wind seems stronger than it has been.  Karol is doing a great job!  The terrain has changed, lots of hills.  The closer we got to Springfield Missouri to wider the roads got.  We both relaxed since there is a shoulder and the hwy has gone to 4 lane.  Yea!!!

As we stopped to make lunch, we noticed an issue with our front passenger tire. Searched the internet for a Freightliner Dealer.  Found one in Springfield, everyone that helped us was terrific.  Nothing major was wrong just needed to rotate a tire from the rear of the coach to the front.  Everything worked out in our favor.  Better to be safe than sorry.  We are learning new things everyday.

We are now resting and relaxing at the City of Branson Lakeside RV Park.  Our view is looking out onto Lake Taneycomo.  This is Liz's first time in Branson.  Karol  said that this area has changed a great deal.  Yes she has been here before.  Liz is very grateful that she is willing to go places that she has already witnessed before.  We walked into town, only a few blocks from the campground.  The strip has lots of shops, a typical tourist area.  Tomorrow we are planning on heading out on the motorcycle to see some of the other sites.
